new leaflet final design

New Leaflet Screenshots

i wanted to re make the inside of my leaflet becuase i didnt think it looked very different from other leaflets, and i wanted to make it stand out.
so i decided to get rid of my three photos and make the first one as my background. i did this becuase the photos werent really needed on there and this one was the nicest one as a decoration picture. i think text wrapped all my type around the builtings. i made my type white and black.

then i thought i could change the type colour. so i thought about making it the same as the background but as a gradient. but i didnt think this looked very nice, the colours and type just seemed to fall into the picture, and i wanted them to stand out a little.
i then thought about just one colour again but a brighter colour. i did blue, but it didnt look good. it was too bright and clashed too much.
i then tried to gradient it with different shades of blue,  but this didnt see to make much difference, it still looked bad.
i then went back to one colour text. a dark grey colour. with white titles.but the titles stoof out too much.
then i tried it with blue titles which looked better, but the type just looked boring again.
i started to look at sunset pictures on google too see what colours were in them. so i made my time gradiually nice in the scense of a sunset. but this didnt look too good. also it didnt match the direction of the picture.

then i made each colour the colours (with the titile being slightly darker) but this just didnt seem to work either.

then i finally worked out to gradient the whole type by pasting a gradient box behind the type.  i made the gradient at an angle to go in the sae direction as the sunset.
i then thought my other side didnt look as good and it didnt match with the other side, so i decided to change the background to a blue gradient. but i thought this shade of blue looked too bright and didnt go very well.
so i then make it darker and it looks a lot better, and mathches more too. i want the front cove to stand out a little more anyway.but i noticed how the title of my leflet doesnt stand out now.
so i made it white and it stands out a lot better now.

materials research

another way to attract heat to the bilboard, i thought about using different coloured foils, this is where i can use the decoupage technique. i cant gather recycled foils and place them on my board which will them collect the suns heat, which will light up the board at night. i would also place that mod podge over it so it seals it all and makes it waterproof.

when making my bilboard i though that the sign might not always work because there may not always be enough of the suns energy to light it. so i thought of others ways to light the sign up, without using electricity.
i came up with reflective materials, they will become visible when light is shone onto it, for example, cars headights.
i drew some of my sun out and experimented with different materials, and colours as the rays.
.light on the vinyl shows very well which is the reflective vinyl and i think the orange and yellow fit well into the topic.
here is it with no light on it, it looks just like ordinary vinyl and coloured material, this would be good in the day as normal people could look at it and it will look lie a normal sign.

i decided to experiment with the sun i made, and the rays in different ways.
i did orange and yellow togeher and with a gap and then each one with silver. i think the best one is the yellow and orange together becuase it looks less bright, which wont draw you way from what the sign is actually saying. i think i will condider doing this on my bilboard.

i think the coloured foil idea would be good, but im not sure how i would be able to connect it so it lights up the sign at night. but if there is a way to do it, i think it would be a very good idea, as it also catches peoples eye in the sun. also it could be lacqured down with mod podge to make it waterproof, becuase it wouldnt be waterproof on its own.

i like the relfective vinyl idea becuase when the light is not working, where there has been no sun in the winter month, light will shine on it and it will be very bright and noticable, even more than the coloured foil. also the vinyl would be water proof, even if i decided to do the decoupage technique, and it has sticky backing to its easy to stick down. you can also go to local sign shops and gather scrap relfective vinyl from them, and they proberly wouldnt charge.

about solar energy
Solar energy is using the suns energy and its light to provide heat, light, hot water and electricity, for different homes and businesses.
There are 5 main techniques that have been made to collect the most energy from the sun…

Inner page 2
• Photovoltaic (Solar Cell) Systems
which produce electricity directly from sunlight
• Solar Hot Water
Which is heating water using solar energy
• Solar Electricity
Which uses the suns heat to produce electric
• Passive Solar Heating and Daylight
Which uses solar energy to heat and light buildings
• Solar Process Space Heating and Cooling
Which is industrial and commercial uses of the suns heat.
this image i downloaded as a free vector, but added im my sun.

Most common solar panels
Two most commonly used techniques used are photovoltaic (solar cells) systems and solar hot water. These are most commonly seen on the roof tops of people’s houses or businesses. This is because they are the cheapest and easiest to install. Also they are very practical for people’s houses as they do not take up much room.

center page 2
Photovoltaic(Solar Cells)Systems
Solar cells convert sunlight into electricity, this technique is used to power calculators and watches.
How do they work?
When the sunlight is absorbed by the material the solar energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms allowing the electrons to flow and produce electricity.

These flat-plate photovoltaic arrays can be places on a south facing roof, or a tracking device that follows the sun, so they can capture the most sunlight.
Several of these arrays can provide enough power for a whole household.
Solar Hot Water
The sun heats up shallow water of a lake, so like that the sun can be used in the same way to heat buildings.
How do they work?
Solar water heating systems have two main parks: a solar

collector and a storage tank. The most common collector is a flat-plate collector. This is then mounted on a roof. It is made of a thin, box with a transparent cover facing the sun. Small tubes run through the box that carry fluid, either water or an antifreeze solution. The tubes are attached to an absorber plate which is black to attract the suns heat better, this then heats up the fluid in the tubes. Then the heated fluid is held in the storage tank.

this photo is from my friend that he has let me use for my leaflet.

Decoupage

i decided to look at decoupage to see if i can use the technique to over lap different foils or relfective materials that have been recycled into making this. i though i would look at this becuase i have never done anything like, this before and im sure i can come out with nice outcomes. also because it is easy to use recycled materials as it doesnt have to be neat.

what is Decoupage?
Decoupage is artistic sleight of hand. What appears to be a painted design is actually paper, glued in place. What looks like lacquer is just a few coats of clear varnish, and what begins as an unremarkable piece of furniture becomes a bold, modern design statement.

if i was to use this on my bilboard i would have to use a thing called 'mod podge' for out doors, which is a strong lacquer.  i would use this so that it would completely seal any recycled materials i have on my bilboard, so that when it rains or when we get harsh weather conditions it will last and be waterproof.

evaluation

i really enjoyed doing this project, i think because it was a ive brief it made it more interesting as you had to consider other peoples ideas as well at your own. it was also good that we had to visit the place we were designg for.
i like how my final outcomes came out, when i was creating them i didnt think thye would be as good as they ended up. so i am happy with most of the changed i make.
if i was to do this again i think i would take a bigger risk aand start experimenting with colours and more styles of type.
with this project i think i handled my time really well as i managed to get everything done in time, and to a standard that i want.
i liked how i had left myself enough time to go back and reasearch more things and to change my designs to make them better.

final bilboard

 DAY
NIGHT
LIGHT ON

at day the solar panel rays,or coloured foil will collect the suns heat throughout the day which then lights up the sign at night. also the rays are reflective materials so that when peoples car lights shine on it, they will see it.

bilboard screenshots

i roughly placed in the logo and type for my bilboard, i wanted to welcome typeface to match the logo. also i thought the logo was too big like this.
i made the welcome type times new roman to match the logo, i also make it a lighter shade of green so it blended in a little more. i also scaled down the logo quite a lot.
i then made the logo in center with the welcome type.
and then i added in a little bit of intomation on how the sign works. i did it in times new roman typeface.
i then tried to see what it looked like center alligned.
then i tried to make the type a little bolder so you could see it.
then i changed the font to arail becuase it goes well with times new roman and it is also very easy to read. i then left alligned it too as i though this looked neater.
i then decided to make the infomation the same green at the welcome type, so it all flowed better.

bilboard layouts

I wanted to make the bilboard more interesting, and interactive for poeople. i had ideas of having solar panels (since i have based my project on solar panels) and have then work through the day, collecting the sun, which then lights up the sign at night, maybe having buildings on the bilboard, which windows light up at night. also it is an non positional way to collecting energy, which also tied into my client, and his aim to recycle items, and to cause as les pollution as possible.
this is the first page of ideas, i tried to think as many interesting eco ways i could think off.
i started another page where i eventually thought of a good idea.
i then developed that idea which was to have the sun collect heat from the real sun which then lights up the sign at night.
and this is my final idea layout.

final leaflet

screenshots

Type sceenshots
to start i made a illustrator file to the correct size i needed and then placed in rulers to see where the folds were and i just places in roughly a few illustrations so i could see where the type would sit.
to start i tried to find a typeface for the main title of the leaflet. here i tried the typeface helvetica light contenced, but thought this is too squashed and is not bold enough to catch peoples eyes.
here i thought about bolder typefaces so i tried impact, although i found this one too bold and it sitting set well enough.
next i tried the typeface kartika, which i thought was a really nice typeface an it did sit well, but i wanted to see if there were better ones.
finally here i tried century gothic typeface which i though sat the best out of all of them, as it was a light typeface but it was still bold enough to stand out, and it goes well with my design.
next i decided to experiment with the typefaces for my main body type. this is it i century gothic type, which i think sits very nice and it flows with the title too.
next i tried the typeface gil sans which i thought would look nice, but it made it very bold and slightly harder to read as it was all close together.
next i tried the typeface arial as i thought this was a basic typeface that everyone can read easily.
but then i tried it again with century gothic but made it slightly bigger and it looked nicer and sat better with my design, also it flows with my title, and i would only have to use one typeface.
once i had found which typeface i was going to use, i could start playing around with my illustrations and colours. here is me choosing which shade or orange i was going to choose. i decided to go with the top one so it was a shade lighter than my title and arrow, so it would stand out differently and sstill look like art of my body copy.
here i have changed the re-newable energy subtitle to the same colour as the rest of my titles, this made it bend it a little more, as its not as importand as my man title.
this is my other page of the leaflet. it was easy putting all the type on as i decided i would have all my type in century golthic so it would all flow. i added in my picutres in the correct place, according to my layouts. also i added a slight sun background, i did this to make it a little more interesting and it still fits in with my design.
i then wondered what it would look like on my first page, so i added it in behind these pages, however this made it look too busy and i prefered it just plain.
here i wondered what it would look like if i made the type fit into the area i had so i justified all the type.
i then did the same with the back page.
here i changed the opacity of the sun in the background. i did this because i wanted it to be subtle.
this is where i added in little type that i needed to add. there is the eco farm infomation and the eco companies.
i made sure that both logos were vectors so that they didnt have white boxes behind them.
this is when i decied to change my text allignment back. i didnt like how there was such big gaps in my type.
i then did the same to the back.
however i then thought it would be a good idea to left allign it. it fit a lot better and flowed better too.
i then copied it all into and indesign document.
then i sized everything more accuratly.
although i wondering what my titles would look like if i played around with the kearning. so i began to play arond and came to a size that was nice.
i then did the same to the back also, and put it into indesign.
