Artist research.

Billie Jean
He creates his work through the use of Biro's, Indian ink, acrylic paints and photography, then he scans is work into illustrator. I like his work because i like how it is sketchy and has a friendly feel with all the faces he puts on things. I would like to experiment with the sketching he does, i could do this on a graphics tablet.

Keith Harring
I like his work because he makes pop art, which means he uses very bright vibrant colours.
1st picture - I like this work because it reminds me of a puzzle, all of it joins together, and it catches your eye, I like how he has left a blue corner, to grab your eye and draw you in and shows you what is going on.
2nd picture - I like this picture for the bright colours used, it will really grab your eye. I also like how he draws the people to simply, and just adds lines to make them have movement.
I would really like to experiment with how he works, using some people as background so the all fit into each other maybe.

Jasper Goodall
I like his work because he uses sillouette type outlines for people, also he adds a lot of random shapes that work well with the picture, this is a good idea for my brief because a lot of shapes and patterns were used in the 80's.
1st picture - I like how the person isn't a complete silloutte, but it also had detail, I would like to experiment with some stuff like this.
2nd picture - I love how he has used half of this as a real person and matches it up to the photo. I also like how hes has added different colours into his sillouttes.

Kathering Hamnet
I saw Katherings work when I went to the club to catwalk exhibition, and I really liked how she used type on her work, and how she tied it to different campaigns. Also how it is so simple but it is so effective to many people.

Paulo Canabarro
I saw this piece of his work and I really liked it. I liked what he has done with the background and how he has photoshopped a girl into it. I would like to create something similar to this, but adding other artist influence and also what inspired me in the 80's day.

80's day at college!

We had an day where we dress like we were from the 80's to help us to get inspiration for out brief. Once we had all got changed we got into group, once we were in groups we had to create and promote our club. We chose an early 80's pop club.
We got given 4 boards to paint on to promote our club. We chose very bright neon colours and shapes that stand out. While we were creating our mood bored see had 80's music playing all day, to help us get get ideas. We also decided to name out club illuminate, becuase it was a very bright club and was never going to be dull.
Once we finished our mood boards we had to present it to the others. We had to chose a song to present it to. We chose 'girls just wanna have fun - cyndi lauper. We chose this becuase we were an all girls group, and in the 80's girls were for equal rights and getting noticed. We made a very hyper routine to promote our club.

I think this day helped becuase I learned to get into the brief more, and it helped get inspiration and ideas for my final posters. I think doing something similar to this would be good for each brief.

Victoria and Albert museum trip

Club to catwalk exhibition

When I walked in there the first thing that stood out to me was the music that was playing, it was a jumpy track that anyone would dance too, it helped set the ambiance and take you back.
As I wondered a little further into the exhibition, the first clothing that jumped out to me was Katherine Hammett - casual clothing campaign. They were baggy t-shirts that you can buy today. They had very bold type on to get across the message of the campaign. They came Ina variety of bright colours which I watched on a catwalk video.
I carried on and saw Vivienne westwoods - nostalgia of mud collection. These dresses were baggy and had a take of modern art. Vivienne Westwood designed these with Malcolm mclaren. These stood out to me because they were quite different from most other clothes there.
The next big thing that stood out to me was the blitz denim - by blitz magazine. Blitz magazine brought together 22 designers together and got them to each customise denim jackets. There were a lot of sparkles put onto the garments, as well as bleaching, ripping and dyeing. I liked this because they all customised their own jacket in their style, that people at home could then do.
I sat down and watched a short video of catwalks. Two artists that stood out to me was Anthony price - which showed a pink sparkly dress with a short tutu. And Scott crolla - which showed a lot of patterned garments. I liked Anthony's work because is was so elegant but had a twist to it. With Scott's work I thought it would be good to look at how the 80's the clashed patterns and colours.
I then went upstairs and noticed the atmoshpere changed a little. it got more jumpy, there was a small room which had music playing and multiple pictures from the 80's club scene showing - this was representing the blitz club. After being in there it made you want to dance and made you more excited.
I then noticed Vivinne Westwoods mini crini collection. It was a jacket with badges on and denim jeans, with a shirt, with stars on. I like that it is like fashion i would wear today.
Then I noticed Rifat Ozbeks white collection. This was a white sparkling jacket with matching 2000 converse, white sequin shorts. This outsit is similar to fashion that is worn today. I like how it is so simple but is so effective.
From this trip I learnt  that a lot of sparkles and sequins are used on the clothing, also patterns were used, and clashed. The music industry had a big influence on the fashion. I think I should look further into Vivienne Westoods work with Malcom Mclaren, because I was drawn to their work the most.

Graphical advertising posters

For this brief I have to make posters for the V&A exhibition 'club to catwalk'. The aim of this brief is to discover how imagery is used and also understand how graphic designers use software to make their work.

Evaluation

I enjoyed this project becuase it is a live brief and my work could be used for a real thing. It was good learning how to deal with a real client, and I saw how research can be more benificial to the work that I did. Also I liked working with a theme colour and looking and what signage would be used. I think if I was to do it again I would manage my time better because although I got all my work done, the macs lost the font, so I need to allow time for things that may go wrong. I would also develope a few more designs, so I could have a wider range for my client, and maybe even designed for different names and slogans too. This would help if my client wanted something different. I would like to do this again, and to work on a live brief becuase there is a little bit more urgency and more excitment.
