Club to catwalk exhibition
When I walked in there the first thing that stood out to me was the music that was playing, it was a jumpy track that anyone would dance too, it helped set the ambiance and take you back.
As I wondered a little further into the exhibition, the first clothing that jumped out to me was Katherine Hammett - casual clothing campaign. They were baggy t-shirts that you can buy today. They had very bold type on to get across the message of the campaign. They came Ina variety of bright colours which I watched on a catwalk video.
I carried on and saw Vivienne westwoods - nostalgia of mud collection. These dresses were baggy and had a take of modern art. Vivienne Westwood designed these with Malcolm mclaren. These stood out to me because they were quite different from most other clothes there.
The next big thing that stood out to me was the blitz denim - by blitz magazine. Blitz magazine brought together 22 designers together and got them to each customise denim jackets. There were a lot of sparkles put onto the garments, as well as bleaching, ripping and dyeing. I liked this because they all customised their own jacket in their style, that people at home could then do.
I sat down and watched a short video of catwalks. Two artists that stood out to me was Anthony price - which showed a pink sparkly dress with a short tutu. And Scott crolla - which showed a lot of patterned garments. I liked Anthony's work because is was so elegant but had a twist to it. With Scott's work I thought it would be good to look at how the 80's the clashed patterns and colours.
I then went upstairs and noticed the atmoshpere changed a little. it got more jumpy, there was a small room which had music playing and multiple pictures from the 80's club scene showing - this was representing the blitz club. After being in there it made you want to dance and made you more excited.
I then noticed Vivinne Westwoods mini crini collection. It was a jacket with badges on and denim jeans, with a shirt, with stars on. I like that it is like fashion i would wear today.
Then I noticed Rifat Ozbeks white collection. This was a white sparkling jacket with matching 2000 converse, white sequin shorts. This outsit is similar to fashion that is worn today. I like how it is so simple but is so effective.
From this trip I learnt that a lot of sparkles and sequins are used on the clothing, also patterns were used, and clashed. The music industry had a big influence on the fashion. I think I should look further into Vivienne Westoods work with Malcom Mclaren, because I was drawn to their work the most.
